Beach Cleaning Campaign Gets Underway

A UK wide campaign is being launched this weekend in an effort to clean up the countries beaches.

Volunteers will tackle six beaches in NI in the clean up event organised by Surfers Against Sewage, with work starting on Portstewart Strand and Magilligan Point in Co Londonderry today (Friday).

Other beaches to be cleaned are Benone Beach, East Strand, Portballintrae and Castlerock.

The Met Office have warned of heavy rain and very strong winds across Northern Ireland today, Wednesday 16 February, as Storm Dubley moves across the country. Two weather warnings are in place – a Yellow warning for wind from 1pm and Amder warning for wind from 2pm.

Girl, 12, Killed In Newry Beach Buggy Crash
A 12-year-old girl has died in a crash involving a beach buggy in Newry. The girl was travelling on the buggy with another 14-year-old girl when they collided with a pick-up trick at around 2.50pm on the Flagstaff Road in Cloughogue on Saturday, 18 November. The 12-year-old girl died from her injuries.

RNLI Beach Lifeguard Unit Vandalised At Whiterocks
Around £800 damage has been caused to an RNLI beach lifeguard unit at Whiterocks on the Causeway Coast after it was vandalised. The incident happened overnight on Tuesday, 18 July, and extensive damage has been caused.

Belfast Man Drowns In Bulgaria
A man from Belfast has drowned on holiday in Bulgaria. The victim, named as James Kelly, 25, was originally from the Shankill Road area of the city. It is understood the father-of-one was on holiday with his partner at the Sunny Beach resort on the Black Sea when he died on Wednesday (25 June).
