£383k Allocated To Police Museum
£383,000 has been put forward by the Department of Justice for a new Police Museum in order to mark the service of the police Part-Time Reserve (PTR).
The £383,000 is the balance remaining from £20m provided by the Treasury for the benefit of the PTR on the devolution of justice. It is now to be made available to the RUC GC Foundation, which is responsible for the development of the new Police Museum.
It was initially thought the money might be disbursed to former officers through grants from a number of policing charities, but following consultation with policing charities it has been decided instead to allocate the funding to mark the role of the PTR in the history of policing in Northern Ireland.
Justice Minister David Ford said: "This allocation of funding to the new Police Museum will publicly mark the service and dedication of the Part-Time Reserve during some of the most difficult days of the Troubles, in a lasting and enduring tribute to their role in policing in Northern Ireland.
"The RUC GC Foundation will retain an important role in the ongoing work on the new Police Museum."

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

New police training college gets go ahead
The Northern Ireland Policing Board has set in motion plans to introduce a new police training college for the PSNI by 2007. The college has been advocated for months by PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde who said that the move was essential if Northern Ireland were to develop a world-renowned police force.
