Man Rescued After Dangling From Lighthouse
A man has been rescued after being left dangling some 50ft high in the air from a lighthouse, after his scaffolding gave way.
The man was painting the outside of St John's Point lighthouse near Killough in County Down at about 10:00 this morning
It is thought the painter's scaffolding platform fell away due to high winds, leaving him suspended from a height of about 50ft with only safety ropes to prevent him from falling.
Fire and ambulance personnel deployed specialist rescue teams to reach the man.
The entire operation lasted just over two hours, it has been reported. The man, 50 years old, was not injured but has been left badly shaken by the ordeal.
Earlier the Northern Ireland Ambulance service tweeted: "Patient at St John Point lighthouse has been rescued, brought to ground and is now being checked over by paramedics. Well done NIAS & NIFRS."
