Derry firm wins £2m engineering contracts

A leading Londonderry engineering firm has won contracts worth more than £2 million for work at the new Coolkeeragh ESB power station in the North West.

Brickkiln, a leading waste management and civil engineering business, has already started carrying out civil engineering works on site preparation and those associated with the demolition of the existing tank farm and its replacement by new storage tanks. Other services being provided by the company include waste management and work on the supply of materials.

The contracts where announced yesterday at the launch of the second stage of the Supplier Development Model which aims to help local companies win business from the development of the £150 million gas fired power station by Coolkeeragh ESB Ltd.

Commenting on the contract's, Brickkiln Managing Director, Thomas McGlinchey said: “The Supplier Model initiative has been tremendously important for the company. In addition to the work gained at the site, the contracts have enabled us to develop a network of contacts both in Ireland and across Europe."

Brickkiln is among a number of local businesses which have already won contracts for activities such as construction, scaffolding, pipe erection, electrical contracting and cleaning, worth more than £25 million in the Supplier Development Model scheme, a joint venture between Invest Northern Ireland, Coolkeeragh and ESB International and North West Marketing to promote local sourcing of products and services.

The second phase in the Supplier Development Model initiative was announced by Prof. Terri Scott, Invest NI’s Managing Director of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise; Richard Sterling, Coolkeeragh Power’s Managing Director; and Roland Stickler, Commercial Project Manager of VA Tech, as the main contractors with General Electric.
