McGurk's Bar Bomb: Man Arrested
A 75-year-old man has been arrested in relation to a bomb attack on a bar in north Belfast that became one of the worst atrocities carried out during the Troubles.
The UVF claimed responsibility for the bomb attack on McGurk’s Bar in 1971 in which 15 people were killed.
Detectives from the PSNI Serious Crime Branch arrested the man in east Belfast. He has been taken to the Serious Crime Suite at Antrim police station for questioning.
The move follows a report by the Police Ombudsman in 2011, after which the Chief Constable undertook to review the case to identify any possible opportunities for further investigation.
A review process that initially involved the Historical Enquiries Team and more recently detectives in Serious Crime Branch, was carried out.
The officer leading the renewed investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway, said: "Despite the passage of time, there remain a number of opportunities to make progress. We will do our best to develop these lines of enquiry as thoroughly and quickly as possible.
"At the same time, I would ask those individuals who know who was involved in this attack on 4 December 1971 to talk to us. Much has changed in the four decades since this terrible atrocity but the families of the victims and survivors continue to suffer. I would ask that anyone with information or suspicions about this bomb attack to come forward."

One man was convicted for all 15 murders in 1978. Families of the victims have been advised of today’s arrest.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder

Man Arrested Following Incident At House In Coleraine
A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident at a house in Coleraine, Co L'Derry. It happened at a property on Knockantern Grove in the Mountsandel area on Tuesday, 16 August. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of possessing of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an offence and assault on police.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder
A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Two Charged With Murdering Owen Creaney
Two people have been charged with the murder of Owen Creaney. Mr Creaney, 40, who has been described as "frail and vulnerable" by police, was found in a wheelie bin at a property in the Craigavon area on Saturday (5 July). Following the discovery, detectives arrested a man, aged 27, and a 23-year-old woman in connection with the incident.
