Kodak Announces 210 Job Losses
Unite has called for an urgent meeting with the Kodak management, following the company's announcement that its Leeds plant will close with the loss of 210 jobs.
Unite regional officer Chris Daly said: "This is terrible news for the workers and their families, and a blow to manufacturing capacity in Leeds.
"Unite understood that the Leeds site was a profitable one for Kodak and we are seeking an urgent meeting with the management to discuss the situation. This is a significant loss of skilled jobs that can't easily be replaced."
Kodak's announcement said that the Leeds site is set to close as part of a global review of its operations. The Leeds factory makes printing plates for the commercial printing industry.
Unite said that an unspecified number of jobs are due to be lost this summer, with the remaining workforce losing their employment in the middle of 2015. The production at Leeds will be transferred to other Kodak sites globally.
