Stormont Urged To Provide Financial Assistance To Fishermen

Stormont has been urged to provide financial aid to fishermen unable to work due to the recent bad weather.

Around £20,000 in emergency payments have been paid out by Fisherman's Mission, a charity established to support fishing families facing financial hardship.

The charity has said that fishermen are struggling, with many unable to make a living since earlier December.

According to reports even on days calm enough for fishing boats to get out, the catch is small resulting in little more than running expenses and fuel bills.

The Assembly is being upon to establish an emergency fund for the fishing industry.
