Further Sleet And Snow Expected

The public is being asked to be aware of the risk of disruption to travel, as Northern Ireland prepares for another evening of sleet and snow that will continue into Friday.

"An area of rain and sleet with hill snow will move eastwards across Northern Ireland this afternoon," the Met Office said.

"Some snow is possible at low levels initially but most settling snow is likely above 300 metres, where 2-5 cm is possible in places."

Rain is expected to move across the UK from the south on Friday afternoon and into the evening, bringing accumulations of 10-20 mm widely across Northern Ireland.

Confiscation Order Against Coleraine Woman

A Coleraine woman has had a Confiscation Order to the value of £11,540 filed against her as a result of claiming £20,313 in benefits she was not entitled to.

60-year-old Patricia Kane of Burnside Park, Coleraine, was handed the order at Antrim Crown Court today.

On 2 August 2013 the defendant pleaded guilty to four charges of failing to declare her true circumstances while claiming Income Support and Rates Rebate.

During her claim to benefit she failed to declare that she held "significant funds" in her bank accounts.

At the confiscation hearing the Court granted a Confiscation Order in amount of £11,540 with a three month prison sentence in default of non-payment. She has until 12 May 2014 to satisfy the order.

£100k Lotto Ticket Unclaimed

A winning Lottery ticket worth over £100,000 purchased in Antrim or Ballymena has gone unclaimed.

The winning ticket, with a prize of £116,304, was purchased for the National Lottery draw on 18 December 2013.

The ticket matched five numbers - 2, 7, 25, 35, 40, 42 - and the bonus ball (13).

The holder has until 16 June to come forward and claim the prize.

Anyone who believes they have the winning ticket can call the National Lottery Line on 0845 910 0000 within the 180-day deadline.

£261k For W Belfast Road Improvements

£261,000 is to be spent on improving roads in west Belfast.

A resurfacing scheme is due to commence on Ladybrook Park on Monday 17 February.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said: "The scheme is being undertaken to improve the quality of the carriageway and footways. The work is expected to take seven weeks to complete."

Works will initially be undertaken using temporary traffic signals and a two-way traffic flow will be maintained.
