NIHE Allocates £20,000 To The Restore Iconic Murals
SDLP Area Representative for the Moor, Emmet Doyle, has welcomed news the Housing Executive has allocated £20,000 to the Bogside Artists to restore four of the iconic murals in 'The People’s Gallery'.
Mr Doyle said it is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the famous artists to have secured this funding and continue to show their love of the Bogside and the people of Derry by restoring murals that attract thousands of people into the Bogside every year.
Mr Doyle said: "I am absolutely over the moon that the Bogside Artists have secured this funding from the Housing Executive. It truly is refreshing to see a public body such as the Executive investing in 'The People’s Gallery', a focus of pride for the people of the Bogside and the entire City.
"The three men that constitute the Bogside Artists, Tom Kelly, William Kelly and Kevin Hasson have put this city on the map of the art world for many years and have the support and admiration of its people for their work.
"I have long been a supporter and admirer of the Bogside Artists and 'The People's Gallery' that has stood in the Bogside telling the story of our chequered history. There are some in the city who would wish to see the Gallery re-imaged but, the reality is, they attract innumerable visitors to our city; they are known worldwide and, right across Derry, and they occupy a special place in the hearts and minds of our people."

Sinn Féin Praises Positive Events Organised By Féile Derry
Sinn Féin has commended Féile Derry for organising a full schedule of positive community events in the Bogside, Creggan and surrounding areas. The party's Foyle MLA, Pádraig Delargy, said hundreds of people have attended the positive events as he noted that the 'unacceptable' burning of flags on bonfires must stop now.

Officers Injured During Disorder In L'Derry
Two police officers and a member of the public have been injured during disorder in L'Derry. A total of 26 petrol bombs were thrown in the Bogside area on Monday night, 09 July. Three people were arrested and a car was also set on fire.

Former Soldier Released In Bloody Sunday Investigation
A former soldier arrested by detectives investigating the events of Bloody Sunday has been released. Fourteen people died after soldiers opened fire during a civil rights march in the Bogside area of L'Derry in 1972. The 66-year-old man was detained in Co Antrim on Tuesday by detectives from the Legacy Investigation Branch.

Shots Fired In L'Derry's Bogside
A number of shots have been fired overnight in the Bogside area of L'Derry, it has been reported. Police received reports that two masked men were spotted in the Dove Gardens shortly before midnight. It is thought that four shots were fired in the area.
