Firefighter Dies On Duty In Lurgan

A firefighter died suddenly on Monday night while he was on duty in Lurgan.

The NI Fire and Rescue Service said the man collapsed at the scene at Deeny Drive in the Kilwilkee Estate shortly after 9.30pm.

Chris Kerr, Chief Fire Officer at the NIFRS, said: "It is with deep regret that I can confirm that a Firefighter died suddenly while on operational duty last night. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this extremely difficult time.

"Colleagues gave immediate first aid and requested an ambulance to scene. "The Firefighter was treated at the scene by paramedics and was taken by ambulance to Craigavon Area Hospital and despite the best efforts of medical staff he was later pronounced dead.

"No further details are available at present and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of our colleague is underway."
