Go Ahead For University Car Park
The University of Ulster has received permission to construct a multi-storey car park for its new campus in the city centre.
The original proposal for Frederick Street, Belfast, involved building a 487-space car park, but this was rejected because it was too large and would have impacted on local residents. The plans were then revised and the university reduced the size of the building. As a result, the five-storey facility will now house 355 car parking spaces, plus 200 bicycle parking spots on the ground level.
The wider planning scheme for the university campus will involve the construction of three buildings at Frederick Street, Donegall Street and Great Patrick Street.
Demolition and preparatory work is under way on the site and construction is due to begin next year.
