Green Light For Omagh Retail Development
Planning approval has been given the go-ahead for a new retail development in Omagh town centre.
The application is for the extension and alteration to existing retail premises to provide 2,274 square meters of floorspace.
The development will include a hot food cafe, a new service yard, car parking and alteration to the existing road junction at the site on the Dublin Road.
The existing SUPERVALU store in Omagh Town Centre will be moved to new extended premises on the lower ground floor. Primark will take over the floorspace currently occupied by SUPERVALU. The DRD Roads Service car park will also be improved with new traffic flows and improved access off the Dublin Road.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said: "This is good news for Omagh. This development will sustain and enhance Omagh town centre as a shopping destination. The relocation and retention of the existing SUPERVALU store in the town, and the decision of Primark to start trading in Omagh, will bring a greater retail offering to people in the area and beyond. It will also bring jobs in the short term during the construction phase and then retail jobs in the long term. This is all to be welcomed.
"The opinion to approve this development was made within 13 weeks of the receipt of the application. This, and my approval for the new Arvalee School and Resource Centre today, are all boosts for Omagh and the west and demonstrate my commitment to deliver fast and fair planning decisions that create a better environment and a stronger economy."
DOE Planning consulted with Omagh District Council on its opinion to approve this application on 3 February 2014. The Council raised no objections to the proposal.
