Justice Committee Meet To Discuss New Chief Constable
The justice committee are due to meet to discuss the appointment of a new Chief Constable.
A row has broken out over the appointment following comments by Minister for Justice David Ford, who said he wanted to remove the mandatory requirement for a new chief to have served at Assistant Chief Constable rank for a minimum of two years in another police service.
Any changes to the criteria need to be brought before the Executive, First and deputy First Ministers Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness have said.
The discussions follow Chief Constable Matt Baggott's announcement last week that he would not be renewing his contract when it expires in September.
