£5.5m Portadown Leisure Facilities Approved
Planning approval has been granted for for new and redeveloped leisure facilities in Portadown.
The application for the £5.5m project includes a new pavilion, multi-use games area, grass pitches, a synthetic pitch, play area, car park, lighting, planting, boundaries, new paving, kerbs, lighting and drop off bays.
The application site is located on lands at The People's Park Portadown and Northway Tunnel between Woodhouse Street and Obin's Street, Co Armagh.
Mark H Durkan said: "This significant new development scheme is welcome news for the local area bringing new leisure facilities the whole community can enjoy.
"Craigavon Borough Council has secured almost five and a half million pounds for the Shared Process and Community Engagement Project (SPACE) from the Special European Programmes Body (SEUPB) Peace III Priority 2.1 Contributing to a Shared Society and Creating Shared Public Services. In addition to the three jobs that will be created as a result of the project there will also be construction jobs during the development phase.”
DOE Planning consulted Craigavon Borough Council on 20 January 2014, who raised no objections to the proposal.

Shared Campuses Funding Announced
A new programme to open funding for the delivery of shared education campuses across Northern Ireland has been launched today. The shared campuses will be constructed as part of the Executive's 'Together: Building a United Community' initiative, launched by the First and deputy First Minister in May last year.
