Hoax Objects Found In Carrickfergus Alert

Two suspicious objects found during a security alert in Carrickfergus, County Antrim, have been declared elaborate hoaxes according to police.

The security alert began on Sunday afternoon in the Broadlands Gardens area of the town, when several homes were evacuated.

The army bomb squad were called in and carried out a number of controlled explosions.

Police said the two suspicious objects discovered in the area were later declared to be elaborate hoaxes.

Residents were allowed to return home just after 21:00.

The alert began shortly after 4:35pm on Sunday, 12 November, when it was reported to police that a suspicious object had been found at residential premises in the Sunnyside Drive area. A number of homes in the area were evacuated, as police conducted a public safety operation.

A police operation took place on the Cornakinnegar Road after the discovery of a suspicious object. ATO examined the package and declared the incident an elaborate hoax.

Belfast bomb alert an 'elaborate hoax' say police
A bomb alert at the offices of the Belfast Telegraph has been declared an elaborate hoax. Police cordoned off a number of street's surrounding the Telegraph office on Royal Avenue. However, this was eventually lifted just after lunchtime on Friday.
