Thousands Expected For L'Derry Legacy Event

Thousands of people expected to turn out this evening (17 January) for the first Music City 2014 Legacy event in L'Derry.

BBC Radio 1's Edith Bowman will introduce performances on the Live Music stage and performances from Shane Filan, former Westlife star, Little Bear, The Clameens culminating in the illumination of the Global Rainbow.

The event starts at 19:30 at the Peace Garden / Foyle St Car Park and event goers are being urged to use public transport where possible or consider walking to the event.

Music City 2014 has been conceived to build on the momentum of L'Derry's year as UK City of Culture in 2013.

Paul Rafferty, Derry City Council said: "We are anticipating a huge turnout on Friday evening and in order to facilitate a safe event members of the public are advised that there will be some disruption to normal travel movements during the day (Friday). We are advising motorists to expect some delays with diversions throughout the day, to facilitate both the site build and the event itself.

"We must remind drivers that normal on street parking restrictions will be in place and to please avoid parking anywhere where they may be blocking entrances to residences or businesses or where they may be obstructing emergency access. With the absence of park and ride facilities we have designated a drop off point for those attending the event which is located at the entrance to Custom House Street."
