NI Car Sales Increase By 10%

A new study by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has said the number of new cars registered in NI increased by more than 10% in 2013.

Last year, it said there were 52,460 new registrations compared to 47,519 in 2012, but is still lower than a peak of 68,000 in 2007. In total, 2.26 million vehicles were registered in 2013, a 10.8% increase from 2012.

Publishing the results, the SMMT said car sales in Northern Ireland increased by 28% in December making it the highest rate of growth in any area of the UK.

When looking at the most popular new vehicles in the region, the Ford Fiesta topped the list with 2,314 sales. This was followed by the Ford Focus (1,834), Volkswagen Golf (1,774) and Vauxhall Astra (1,706).

The 32-year-old victim was caught out when she bought a 2012 Ford Focus she saw on a used car sales website of a business claiming to be based in England. Northern Ireland was the fastest-growing region of the UK for newly registered companies in 2023, according to a new index from Ulster Bank and Beauhurst. The New Startup Index highlights how in 2023 Northern Ireland gained 14,000 new companies, a 59% increase on 2022.

Consultation On Future Of House Sales Scheme Launched
A consultation on the future of House Sales Schemes in Northern Ireland has been launched by the Department for Communities. Currently the House Sales Schemes, which are Northern Ireland's equivalent to the 'Right to Buy' Scheme in Great Britain, are available to all Northern Ireland Housing Executive tenants and Housing Association tenants.

Car Sales Drop Most In NI
According to recent figures the UK new car market has done better than predicted in 2011 but it is still in decline with Northern Ireland sales showing the biggest drop. A regional breakdown of new car registrations has shown that sales in Northern Ireland fell by 11.7% in 2011 to 47,229 vehicles.
