Man Admits Abusing Teenager
A man has admitted sexually and physically abusing a 15-year-old over a three year period.
The accused, 43, is said to have carried out the assaults from April 2006.
The girl came from a children's home background. She left the home at the age of 15 and moved in with the defendant, in the understanding that it would be a loving relationship.
In court, it was revealed that the accused committed acts of gross indecency on the teenager, such as stubbing out cigarettes on her body. He also kicked and punched the girl, banged her head off the walls in their house and was said to have attempted to strangle his victim, causing her to black out.
Commenting, a defence barrister said it was difficult to read the case papers "without feeling outraged", and said there was a history of a lifestyle of drugs and alcohol abuse by both parties.
Appearing at Londonderry Crown Court, the accused admitted a total of 19 charges, including indecent assault, and was remanded in continuing custody.
He is expected to be sentenced in January.
