NIE Restores Power To 'Majority' Of Homes
Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) technicians have been working through the night to see that the majority of homes that experienced power loss due to severe winds have been reconnected.
Over 30,000 customers had electricity supplies restored yesterday, and NIE says less than 50 homes remain without electricity.
Severe winds swept across Northern Ireland on Wednesday evening, causing disruption as roads were closed due to fallen trees and ferry and rail services were effected.
The Christmas market in Belfast city centre was closed as a safety precaution. It re-opened at 14:00 yesterday.
Julia Carson, NIE Communications Manager, said: "We’ve restored over 30,000 customers since the severe weather swept across Northern Ireland yesterday morning, and that work will continue today to restore electricity to small pockets of customers in isolated areas.
"We would like to remind customers that if they do lose electricity supplies they should contact the NIE Customer Helpline on 08457 643 643 or report the fault online at nie.co.uk. Customers can also follow us on Twitter @NIElectricity for regular updates."
