Planning Approval Recommended For Derry Scheme
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has recommended planning approval for a new mixed use re-development scheme.
The proposals are for lands at Rossdowney Road, Waterside, Derry.
Plans for the site, which is currently occupied by Niche Drinks, include a new food superstore with ancillary non-food, business innovation centre and the retention of the former school building for use as a crèche. The proposal also includes car parking, servicing and associated landscaping.
Commenting on the recommendation, Mark H Durkan said: "This is a significant regeneration project that will inject investment into the locality and benefit both the local area and the Waterside as a whole, by creating a variety of employment and community uses within the site.
"This is a boost for Derry. The significant investment demonstrates a confidence in the local economy. My vision is for the DOE to build a better environment and a stronger economy. This decision will help do that."
Derry City Council will be consulted on the proposals at its next Planning Committee meeting which is scheduled for next week.
The application is related to a previous application that was recommended for approval for the relocation of the existing Distillery business to a new site at Campsie.
