US Consulate Issues Safety Advice To Americans In Belfast

The American consulate in Belfast has issued safety advice to US citizens in or visiting the city, warning them to "avoid suspicious activity, vehicles or packages".

It follows the partial explosion of a bomb left at the entrance to an underground car park in Belfast city centre on Sunday night.

The US Consulate General in Belfast urged Americans to stay clear of areas where demonstrations are taking place, and "exercise caution in the vicinity of any parades or protests".

The statement from the US Consulate highlighted that the PSNI "continue to assess the threat of terrorism in Northern Ireland to be severe."

Belfast To Welcome Chinese Consulate
A Chinese consulate is to be established in Belfast, it has been confirmed. Speaking on 'Good Morning Ulster' this morning, junior first minister Jonathan Bell confirm the office was to open. The announcement follows a visit from Madame Liu Yandong, a high-ranking politician from China's Communist Party, in 2012.

Anthrax alert at US Consulate in Belfast
Two employees at the American Consulate in Belfast have been taken to hospital after coming into contact with a white powder contained in the post. A package was being taken for x-ray when one of the men noticed the powder on Monday October 23. Both men were isolated and showered down before being taken to hospital as a precaution.

Home Safety And Crime Prevention Event At Belfast City Hall
A free home safety and crime prevention advice event is to be held at Belfast City Hall on Friday, 01 March. The Belfast Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) has organised the event, which is free and will take place from 10am-1pm in Belfast City Hall. Complimentary tea, coffee and refreshments will also be provided.
