Loyalists launch new interface concern group

Concerned loyalists have launched a new task force aimed at stamping out trouble at some of Belfast's main interface areas.

The Protestant Interface Network is a network of individuals that aim to tackle trouble in areas such Whitewell Road, Limestone Road and Ardoyne.

Last year more than 1,100 people and police officers were injured during such disturbances.

Although the project does not have a cross-community element to it, the group hopes this will change in the foreseeable future.

The new initiative follows recent talks between UUP leader David Trimble and members of loyalist paramilitary representatives in an aim to diffuse tensions over the coming marching season.
