18th Century Bridge Refurbishment Complete

An 18th centruy bridge in Omagh, County Tyrone, has been officially opened following refurbishment to the tune of £180,000.

Stone Bridge underwent repairs as a result of a maintenance and carriageway resurfacing scheme that began at the end of June and included the strengthening of the bridge in order to support greater vehicle containment.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said: "This scheme will not only improve safety but will help ensure that this wonderful 18th century bridge can continue to provide an important service to road users."

The works were completed ahead of schedule and the bridge was reopened to road users at the beginning of September.
