No Threat To NI Fuel Supply Say NIOF

The is no threat to fuel supplies in Northern Ireland, the Northern Ireland Oil Federation (NIOF) has said.

The federation were responding to concerns raised in light of the ongoing dispute and current closure of the Grangemouth oil refinery and petrochemical plant in Scotland.

The majority of NI's petrol, diesel and heating oil is supplied by Grangemouth, but the NIOF has reassured people that they have "numerous options" for supplying NI with fuel.

"Even if the refinery was to close there are numerous options to supply fuel into NI and wholesalers would make other supply arrangements to cover demand," David Blevings from NIOF said.

Adding: "The resilience of the oil sector at a local level is excellent and with current mild weather oil stocks are plentiful."
