117 Jobs At Risk At Pratts Luton Plant

GMB, the union for staff at Pratts in Luton, responded to the announcement of job losses at the Luton plant.

Sue Hackett GMB Regional Officer said: "This is terrible news for the workers involved and for Luton's economy. The total possible job losses could be 117

"GMB will seek talks with Pratt to fully understand whether it is a big retailers like TESCO that are driving this restructuring. We will do everything we can to minimise the job losses."

Offshore Company Axes Jobs
Around 150 jobs in Aberdeen and Dundee have been axed after an offshore services company ceased trading. Oceanteam Power and Umbilical has been forced to close when the firm's holding company withdrew its financial support. Staff are based in Aberdeen, at workshops in Dundee and offshore.

600 Manufacturing Jobs Under Threat
The threat to 600 manufacturing jobs at OneSubsea, the Leeds oil and gas engineering firm, reinforces the need for a strong industrial strategy to protect such skilled jobs, Unite the union. Unite said the news that the Houston-based multinational wanted to shed 600 of its 900-strong workforce by the end of 2017 had come "out of the blue".

220 Jobs To Be Axed At Potash Mine In Boulby
220 jobs are to be axed at the potash mine in Boulby, near Middlesbrough, Unite the union which has about 800 members at the UK's deepest mine, said this was more disastrous news for the regional economy, following hard on the heels of the announcement by SSI Redcar that it was to axe about 2,200 jobs at Redcar.

NI Engineering Jobs Lost
It was announced yesterday that the Hughes Christensen drill bit factory in east Belfast was to close with the loss of 210 jobs. Parent company Baker Hughes said its operations would move to Texas. The factory at Castlereagh has been in operation for 55 years making drill bits for the oil and gas industry.
