Men Arrested Over M1 Alert

Four men have been arrested following a hoax bomb alert on the M1 this morning.

Police had closed the motorway in both directions between Belfast and Lisburn after a suspicious object was found on the offslip of Kennedy Way.

Four men, two aged 26, one 25 and one 53, were arrested by detectives investigating dissident republican activity after they were stopped while driving in a car on the Andersonstown Road.

Commuters were greeted with tailbacks causing delays of an hour or more as they joined the M1 this morning.

Army experts were called in to examine an object on the offslip at Kennedy Way in west Belfast.

It has not yet been revealed whether or not the object was a hoax.

The M1 between Belfast and Lisburn was closed in both directions between junction one at Broadway and junction six at Saintfield.
