Man Arrested In London Over 1976 Belfast Murder
A 60-year-old man has been arrested in London as part of a renewed investigation into a 1976 Belfast murder.
Paul McNally was fatally shot, and another man seriously injured, as they left a bookmaker's shop at the junction of Brompton Park and Crumlin Road on 5 June 1976.
The police say they believe it was a sectarian attack.
It is believed two gunmen opened fire on a group of men who were leaving the bookmakers. Mr McNally, 26, died two days later in hospital. He was married and had a four-year-old daughter and a five-month-old son.
Today (24 September), detectives from the Serious Crime Branch, assisted by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service, arrested a 60-year-old man in east London.
He is being interviewed at a police station in the city.
The investigation was re-opened after police received new information.
In February, a man was arrested in Belfast and later released pending a report being sent to the Public Prosecution Service.
