£140k Found In Home Of Ex-IRA Man
An investigation has been launched after €140,000 in cash was found under a bath in the former home of an ex-IRA member.
According to the Irish Independent, the property previously belonged to former hunger striker-turned-property developer, Tom McFeely. The building, located in the prestigious Ballsbridge area of south Dublin, was repossessed by NAMA last year after Mr McFeely was declared bankrupt.
The house was recently sold to a new owner, who is understood to have hired the plumber to carry out renovation work in the bathroom. He then came across the cash, in €50 notes. The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) was alerted following the discovery.
An investigation is now underway, with CAB officers trying to determine who owns the money.
McFeely, who is originally from Dungiven in Co L'derry, served 12 years in the Maze Prison. He joined the Provisional IRA during the Troubles and was later convicted of shooting an RUC officer. In the 1980s, he spent 53 days on hunger strike.
When he was released in 1989, he left the republican movement and moved to Dublin where he began work in the building trade.

NI Developer Criticised Over Dublin 'Fire Traps'
A Derry-born developer has come under fire after sub-standard building work led to the eviction of 180 residents from his Priory Hall housing complex in Dublin. Even Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny has criticised the developer, Thomas McFeely, who was behind the ill-fated complex saying that if he had done his job properly this would not have happened.

Industry urges NI to ‘play safe’ with cash cards
Cash machine users were today advised to keep playing safe when making cash withdrawals, despite fraudulent cash withdrawals in Northern Ireland falling by 8% to £368,000 over the past year. However, despite a fall in Northern Ireland figures the rest of the UK saw an average rise of 85% in fraudulent cash withdrawals over the same period.
