Main NI Parties To Meet Haass
Northern Ireland's five main political parties are to participate in round-table talks with US diplomat Richard Haass today.
It will be the first time since Dr Haass arrived in the city, that he will meet all the parties together.
Haass, who arrived in Belfast at the beginning of the week, has met the different executive parties, community groups and business leaders in the hopes of bringing resolution to the region.
The discussions are aimed at trying to find a resolution on contentious issues such as parades, flags and Northern Ireland's past.
Dr Haass said he hopes to have an agreed document ready by December, but earlier this week, First Minister and DUP Leader Peter Robinson said he did not think the issues would be resolved in that timeframe.
However, the Ulster Unionists and Sinn Féin said they hope the talks will produce an agreement before the end of the year, while the Alliance Party and the SDLP said that if a consensus could not be reached by the deadline, Dr Haass should present his own plan for resolution.
