Foster Promotes NI Tourism
Tourism Minister Arlene Foster has visited Pretoria, South Africa, to meet with the Director General of Tourism, Ambassador Kingsley Makhubela.
Ms Foster said: "Around 25,000 South Africans visited Northern Ireland last year so it is an overseas market which we would like to see grow.
"Tourism Ireland operates a year-round programme of PR and marketing activity in South Africa, including engaging with key travel and lifestyle journalists, as well as showcasing Northern Ireland at trade exhibitions here.
"Our iconic scenery and attractions, including the Giants Causeway and Titanic Belfast, together with our world famous golf courses which are home to Major winning champions Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell, mean we have so much to offer South African visitors."
"Tourism is of key importance to Northern Ireland’s economic growth and I had a very useful meeting with Ambassador Makhubela. I look forward to continuing to build tourism links between Northern Ireland and South Africa."
Arlene Foster also met with key local journalists and travel industry representatives at an event organised by Tourism Ireland.

Both an advance - and a more backward step - in tourism matters were highlighted yesterday as two politicians spoke out on making the most of visitor numbers.

New £4m NI Tourism Campaign Launches
Tourism Ireland has announced a new £4 million multi-media promotional campaign across Great Britain to promote short breaks and holidays in Northern Ireland. The campaign is a result of funding recently announced by Economy Minister Gordon Lyons to help Northern Ireland's tourism industry rebuild and expand post pandemic.

Summer tourism figures set to show increase
Northern Ireland’s summer tourism figures look set to show a 5% increase compared with last year, early indications show. Speaking at a meeting with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) last night, Enterprise Minister Barry Gardiner said last year's record 1,950,000 visitors to Northern Ireland, generated £291 million for the local economy.
