Hospital In Hepatitis C Alert
The Northern Health and Social Care Trust has urged patients from the Mid-Ulster Hospital from over 30 years ago to get in touch.
The call comes after a staff member was diagnosed with hepatitis C.
The doctor, who is now retired, worked in the maternity and gynaecology units between January and November 1979. Women who attended those units in Magherafelt during that period are asked to contact the trust.
It added that the risk of infection is "very small" but they were taking precautions.
Dr Robin Ashe, clinical director for obstetrics and gynaecology at the Northern Trust, added: "I wish to emphasise that the risk of infection is very small however, we appreciate the concern and distress that this may cause and are therefore offering screening, as a precaution, to anyone who was treated in the unit during the defined time period."
The helpline number of 028 9442 4804. It will open seven days a week from 8.30am to 8.30pm and staff will advise people as to whether they needed to have a blood test.
"If you do need tested, staff will arrange an appointment for you at an outpatient clinic and will answer any questions or queries you may have," Dr Ashe continued.
It is understood the healthcare worker also worked at other hospitals across the UK. Similar precautions are being taken in hospitals in England, Scotland and Wales, but the Mid-Ulster is the only hospital they worked at in Northern Ireland.

Tuberculosis alert in Coleraine hospital
A Coleraine Hospital is on tuberculosis alert today after a member of staff contracted a rare form of the respiratory disease. The employee from the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine, contracted a multi-drug resistant form of TB. However, they are thought to be in a stable condition.
