Man appears in court on firearms charge
A man has been remanded in custody on a firearms charge at Lisburn Magistrates Court today.
The charge relates to an incident last month when two men where shot by police after their car failed to stop at a checkpoint on the Crumlin Road at Upper Ballinderry.
David Somers, of no fixed address, appeared via a video link in court.
He was arrested during a police surveillance operation that ended in officers shooting at a car near Lisburn on 29 April
Mr Somers, 22, who is currently unemployed, was charged with possession of a sawn-off semi-automatic shotgun with intent to endanger life. He was remanded in custody to appear in court again via video-link on 24 June.
Neil John McConville, 21, from Bleary in Craigavon, one of the passengers in the car at the time of the incident, died in the shooting. A second man was wounded in the incident.

A fourth man has appeared in court today in connection with one of the biggest drugs hauls ever in Ireland. Perry Wharrie, 47, of an address at 60 Pryles Lane in Essex, appeared before Dunmanway District Court today charged with possession of cocaine for supply on July 2.

A 33-year-year-old man has been charged with attempted robbery and a firearm charge in Newtownards, Co Down. The incident happened at a business on East Street on Saturday, 22 July. The suspect entered the business with what is believed to be a gun and demanded money. He made off on foot.

A 54-year-old man has appeared in court in connection with a hit-and-run in Belfast in which a pensioner was seriously injured. Mr David Fee from Chief Street is charged with causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving and also faces a number of other driving offences.
