New Pedestrian Crossing For Belleek
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced that work is set to start on a £25,000 scheme to provide a pedestrian crossing at Main Street, Belleek.
Work to provide a new Pedestrian User Friendly Intelligent (PUFFIN) Crossing will begin on Monday 9 September and is expected to be completed within one week.
Mr Kennedy said: "These new Puffins will deliver enhanced pedestrian safety and traffic flow features.
"Puffin Crossings are safer for pedestrians at some locations. They are of particular benefit to more vulnerable road users such as children, the elderly and people with disabilities.
"One of the many benefits of Puffin Crossings is that the time provided for pedestrians to cross the road is managed using sensors that detect people still on the crossing.
"Drivers will also benefit. Should a pedestrian push the button and move away, the demand for a traffic light change is cancelled, so reducing driver delays."

Actor Gerard Murphy Dies
SDLP Spokesperson for Culture, Arts and Leisure Karen McKevitt MLA has expressed her sincere sympathies to the family of Newry born actor Gerard Murphy after his passing.
Mrs McKevitt said: "I am deeply saddened by the news that Gerard Murphy passed away at the age of 57 after a long battle with cancer. Although Gerard was born and grew up in Newry he began his acting career with The Citizens Theatre in Glasgow and soon became known around the world for his roles in theatre productions The History Boys and The Rivals and Hollywood Blockbusters Batman and Waterworld.
"Gerard was an immensely talented actor and director and he will be remembered fondly by the people of Northern Ireland particularly in his hometown of Newry. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time."
