GMB Members Employed By Amey Suspend Strike Action

GMB members employed by contractor Amey in Liverpool have suspended strike action to consult members on a new offer.

The shop stewards met today and there will now be a recommendation to the members to accept the new offer, the GMB has said.

More than 400 workers employed by Amey on refuse and street cleaning contracts in Liverpool have suspended strike action due for Friday 16 and Friday 23 August to allow members to be consulted on a new offer.

A work to rule has been under way since 26 July and on the 9 August there was a one-day strike. This was due to be followed by strike action every Friday until October unless the dispute is settled.

George Patterson, GMB Regional Officer said: "We met the shop stewards today and there will now be a recommendation to the members to accept the new offer.

"The members in refuse will be consulted at a meeting tomorrow at 10.30am. The members in the street cleaning workforce will be consulted at a meeting on Monday 19th at 2pm.

"We have made progress on the issue of job security and related issues and we are now in a position to put an improved pay offer to the members. We hope to be in a position to convey the members response to the company early next week."
