Man charged with extortion
A man has appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court today charged with extorting money on behalf of loyalist paramilitaries.
Brian Gould, 35, from Pine Way, denied the charges read out to him after he was accused of receiving protection money from a Chinese restaurant owner on behalf of a paramilitary group, believed to be the UVF.
Mr Gould was charged with demanding £480 with menaces and with inviting a person to make £480 available for terrorist purposes.
He was remanded in custody until June 19.
Two other men were remanded in custody on Monday on a charge of extorting £10,000 from the same businessman.

Lawyer considers client's 'overexposure'
The lawyer of a senior north Belfast loyalist has warned that he may report the Chief Constable, Sir Hugh Orde, and an unnamed Sunday newspaper editor to the Attorney General for over exposure of his client. Ihab Shoukri, from Alliance Road, was today remanded on continuing bail charged two counts of being a member of the UDA/UFF.

Woman Remanded Over Greenisland Murder
A woman has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of Eddie Girvan in Co Antrim. The accused, Margaret Henderson, appeared at Belfast Crown Court on Friday,. Mr Girvan, 67, was found dead at his home on Station Road in Greenisland on Monday night. He was found with his hands tied and a stab wound to his chest.
