Alexion Pharmaceuticals Creates New Jobs

Dublin Bay North Labour TD Sean Kenny has welcomed the news that Alexion Pharmaceuticals is expanding its global presence with the opening of a new office and laboratory facility in Dublin.

Mr Kenny said: "Alexion's new jobs here in Dublin are going to be supplying a drug called Soliris to patients with PNH and aHUS, two severe and life-threatening ultra-rare disorders that affect vital bodily organs, by the end of 2013.

"Ireland's government and universities have an unparalleled commitment and robust partnerships with regard to education and training for pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality assurance, quality control and supply logistics - in other words Alexion chose Ireland for the quality of our people in terms of education and ability.

"As well as that, sustaining and building on our strong track record in pharmaceuticals is a key objective of the Government Action Plan for Jobs, which I have supported continuously, and the past two years we have seen some major jobs announcements in the pharmaceutical sector.

"I know that there will be more announcements over the coming months as Ireland moves towards recovery after the economic crash, and that these jobs are going to be able to help people recover too."
