Fire breaks out on Enterprise train

An engine fire which broke out on the main Belfast to Dublin passenger express this morning stranded passengers near Lurgan.

Passengers travelling to Dublin escaped injury after the blaze took hold in the engine compartment of the Enterprise service as it approached Lurgan this morning.

While the fire was eventually brought under control by firefighters called to the scene, the passengers are believed to have had to wait on board the train for around 20 minutes before being allowed to disembark.

The passengers subsequently had to walk from the train to the nearest station where they were taken by bus to Portadown.
