Robbers steal cash from Kircubbin bank

Police are appealing for information after a substantial sum of money was stolen from a bank in Kircubbin, Co. Down yesterday.

The robbery took place when a man armed with a handgun tried to force his way in through the inner door of the bank in Kircubbin at around 10am.

The robbers' way was initially blocked by a security firm employee and a customer before he was joined by an accomplice.

The men then smashed the glass panel of the door and managed to open it sufficiently to grab a cash box containing a substantial sum of money.

The men then made off in the direction of Portaferry in a maroon coloured Honda car that was waiting nearby. The car was later found abandoned at McKenna Road in the town.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact detectives at Newtownards on 028 9181 8080 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
