Recruitment Competition To Be Held For An Garda Síochána
Fine Gael Senator and Seanad Spokesperson on Justice, Disability and Equality, Martin Conway, has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Defence, Alan Shatter TD, to hold a recruitment competition for An Garda Síochána.
Mr Conway said: "I am delighted that, despite the tough economic climate and the general public service moratorium on recruitment, the Government has recognised the unique role played by An Garda Síochána in Irish society and sanctioned funding for this intake of new talent to the force.
"The recruitment will be run by the Public Appointments Service. To date, they have received some 27,000 expressions of interest from persons wishing to join An Garda Síochána. Given the anticipated high number of applications, and the selection process itself and the formation of a panel; it will be into 2014 before students will enter the Garda college in Templemore to begin training."
