NI hospital doctors and dentists set for pay increase
Health Minister Des Browne has announced plans for an increase in pay for hospital doctors and dentists across Northern Ireland.
Mr Browne said he would be matching the pay awards announced by the Secretary of State for Health for NHS hospital doctors and dentists, doctors and dentists in training, and ophthalmic medical practitioners.
The Minister said: “I am pleased that once again I have been able to announce pay increases for hospital doctors and dentists which are higher than the underlying level of inflation. This represents an increase in real terms and demonstrates my determination to ensure that these dedicated staff are adequately rewarded for their services.”
The pay awards are for the year 2003/2004 which will see an increase in pay of 3.225%.
They follow the recommendations made by the Doctors’ and Dentists’ Review Body (DDRB) which have been accepted in full and have also been accepted by the other Health Departments.
