Cliftonville Defeated By Scottish Champions

Last night's Champions League qualifying tie between Cliftonville and Celtic ended with the Scottish champions emerging as victors after a 3-0 win.

The second qualifying round tie with the north Belfast team and Irish Premiership champions ended in defeat for the homeside, with goals from Mikael Lustig and Georgios Samaras in the first half and a second half strike from James Forrest.

The return leg will be played at Celtic Park next Tuesday, with the Glasgow team entering into the game holding a strong away-goal advantage.

If Celtic win, they will be on their way to progressing to the last 16 teams in the European competition.

Celtic fans were warned before last night's game not to sport team colours in Belfast city centre, given the recent tensions between the two communities, but the game passed off without incident.
