Suspicious Device A Hoax

A suspicious device found in the Markets area of Belfast on Wednesday has been confirmed as a hoax.

The Lower Stanfield Street area was declared safe at about 18:00.

The object was taken away for forensic examinations.

Three Arrested After Garda Car Chase

Three people have been arrested by gardai following a chase on the M1 involving a Northern Ireland-registered car.

The men were arrested just outside Dublin.

A number of garda cars were damaged in the incident, which occurred at about 17:30 yesterday evening.

The three men are being questioned at Ballymun Garda station.

Lorry Driver Dies In Road Crash

A livestock lorry driver has died following an accident on the Mayogall Road near Magherafelt, Co. L'Derry.

The collision happened on Mayogall Road, between Clady and Gulladuff, at about 06:30.

The livestock lorry was the only vehicle involved in the crash.

Coleraine Power Cut Continues

About 700 homes are without electricity following a power cut in Coleraine.

The shortage affected 1,400 homes and businesses, half of which have now been restored.

It is thought the power cut was caused by a contractor hitting a high voltage cable in the Tate's Lane area of the town.

Power cut hits 1,800 homes in Lurgan area
Over 1,800 homes in the Waringstown and Donaghcloney areas of Lurgan were left without power on Monday following severe damage to an underground high voltage electricity cable in the area. The damage was caused by a building contractor working for developers at a new townhouse development adjacent to a nursing home on the Monree Road, Donaghcloney.

The Odyssey complex in Belfast is to remain closed following a "major power failure". The incident happened at around 2.30am on Monday, 11 April, and specialist contractors are currently working on the problem. However, the power is not expected to be restored before today.

Homes Without Power Following Overnight Storm
Around 200 homes are without power following stormy weather across Northern Ireland. It is understood that engineers are working to restore power as NIE warn of possible further damage to the network. The yellow weather warning for strong winds and heavy rains remains in place.
