Livestock Warning Over Hot Weather
The Executive has issued a statement warning animal transporters, farmers and hauliers to take care to protect livestock when transporting them during warm weather.
"Exposure to high temperatures and humidity is a major threat to animal welfare during transport and poses a serious risk during the summer months," it said.
"Failure to take account of high temperatures when planning journeys and a lack of adequate contingency plans can cause suffering to animals."
The Executive advises taking measures such as inspecting animals for signs of heat stress, providing sufficient water, increasing space allowance and planning journeys for the least warm parts of the day.
