L'Derry Boutique Hotel Approved

A new boutique hotel has been approved for development in L'Derry.

The 17 bed boutique hotel and bar facilities will be developed in the B1-listed, former bank building on Shipquay Street.

Environment Minister Alex Attwood said: "This is good news for Derry. With the recent announcement by Lonely Planet that Northern Ireland is in the top 10 European travel destinations, this boutique hotel in the heart of Derry will enhance choice for tourists, business travellers as well as local people."

The news comes as L'Derry announced a record number of hotel bookings for the month of May.

"I am committed to the regeneration of Derry City as the economic heart of the North West. Planning decisions on hotels, Fort George, Ebrington, the Peace Bridge, the Science Park and many more besides, show a firm commitment to help shape this historic City now and in to the future," the Minister added.

"One of the major opportunities arising from the City’s title as UK City of Culture 2013 is the increase in visitor numbers. DOE has approved a total of 386 additional bed spaces."
