NAMA To Finance Belfast Office Developments

Finance Minister Sammy Wilson has welcomed an announcement by NAMA that they are to provide an additional £15m to complete a landmark office development in the city centre.

On Wednesday, the Irish Republic's asset management agency said it would finance the completion of Lanyon Plaza and Soloist Building on the banks of the River Lagan, Belfast.

Work on the two sites, which are close to the Waterfront Hall, came to a stop more than three years ago due to the economic downturn.

The 90,000sq ft Soloist Building was designed by world famous Norwegian architect Neils Torp, with work completed on phase one of the £17m property in 2010.

Lanyon Plaza is a 100,000 sq ft, 15-story office block with a fully glazed facade which cost an estimated £45m. The building also includes apartments, retail space and basement parking.

It is hoped when fully occupied both buildings will accommodate about 1,750 people.

Welcoming the news, Mr Wilson said: "This is a very welcome announcement by NAMA and is evidence once again of the positive role being played by the Agency in Northern Ireland.

"It is also a clear vote of confidence in the local economy in Belfast as these office buildings at Lanyon Plaza will have the capacity to accommodate around 1,750 people once completed.

"Furthermore, the construction and fit-out phase will also generate substantial work for locally based companies creating further opportunities within the construction industry."
