L'Derry Welcomes May Hotel Results
L'Derry experienced its best ever month for hotel bookings in May.
The average hotel occupancy in L'Derry was 80.68%, up 12% on the previous year.
The stats, released by the Derry Visitor and Convention Bureau, could mean the city's stint as the first ever UK City of Culture is paying off.
Mayor Cllr Martin Reilly welcomed the news. He said he was delighted the city was attracting more visitors during its year as the City of Culture.
"These figures are a very positive boost for the city’s accommodation and service providers and are reflective of the excellent work that is being done to promote the city and showcase our tourism offering," he said.
"It is good to see that the city attracted a varied mix of clientele over that period including conference delegates, people attending evens and leisure tourists. I would like to extend congratulations to agencies across the city for the excellent work being done on the ground to positively sell Derry and the region to a global audience, this work is certainly paying off and we are looking forward to a very successful summer and autumn season during 2013 and beyond."
