Man Charged With Arson

A man has been charged with arson by detectives from Newry CID following a fire at a house in Tandragee.

The 21-year-old appeared at a special sitting of Newry Magistrate's Court, County Down on June 15 2013.

The charge relates to a fire at a house in the Market Street Court area on June 9.

Couple Face Dissident Terrorist Charges

A 39-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman have appeared in court after being charged by detectives investigating dissident terrorist activity.

The two suspects, who were arrested last week in L'Derry, face charges of possession of explosives with intent to endanger life and possession of items for an act of terrorism.

The man faces a further charge of collecting material last year likely to be of use to terrorists.

Both suspects appeared at Londonderry Magistrates Court on Saturday 15 June.

Haulier Sentenced For Fraud

A Co Tyrone haulier has been sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended for three years, at Belfast Crown Court.

The charges follow a joint investigation by the PSNI and Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) into the operation of vehicles by Arnold Transport & Sons (NI) Ltd, in Newtownstewart.

Owner and company director, Paul Arnold, 46, of Holmview Heights, Newtownstewart was charged on 20 August 2011.

Following the execution of a PSNI warrant to enter/search several of the hauliers’ vehicles, a number were seized on grounds that tachograph (speedometer) interrupter devices had been installed.

It was established that not only were these devices being used by his employed drivers, but that Paul Arnold had also used them while driving.

On an earlier date at Omagh Crown Court six drivers employed by Arnold Transport & Sons (NI) Ltd received suspended prison sentences of varying lengths.

Man Sentenced Over Benefit Fraud

A man has been convicted at Belfast Magistrates Court for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

Karl Green (25) of Lecale Street, Belfast was given a two month prison sentence for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £184.

Mr Green is also required to repay any outstanding money he wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Man Charged Over Banbridge Murder
A man charged with the murder of another man found dead in Banbridge is to appear before Newry Magistrates' Court today, 13 July. The body of 55-year-old Richard Gerard Scullion was found at a property in the Millmount Court area on Monday, 09 July. Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact them.

Man Appears In Court Charged With Firearms Offences
A 49-year-old man has appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court charged in relation with a number of firearm offences. On Wednesday, Detectives from the PSNI's Criminal Investigation Branch, discovered a number of firearms during the search of a property in the Springfield Road area of west Belfast.

Man Bailed Over Sex Offences
A 40-year-old man has appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court today, charged in connection with a number of sexual offences. The man faces on charge of rape, two charges of sexual assault and one charge of sexual activity with a child.

Man On Trial Over Ear-Biting Attack
A man has gone on trial accused of biting off another man's ear. John Totten, 27, of Milebush Close in Belfast, appeared at Belfast Crown Court charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. The incident occurred outside of the bar at the Bentra Golf Club, Whitehead, in July 2006.

Barman Denies Raping Woman
A 21-year-old barman has appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court charged with the rape of a 20-year-old woman in the University area of south Belfast. Conor Magee, from Dunblane Avenue in the city, denies the charge. Police were informed of the alleged rape in the early hours of Thursday morning.
