SDLP Condemns Diesel Dumpers
SDLP Dungannon Representative Denise Fox has strongly condemned the diesel launderers who dumped a 1000 gallon barrel of highly toxic sludge waste in Edendork Area of Dungannon.
Mrs Fox said: "Those who are responsible for dumping this material in Dungannon have given no thought what so ever for their local community or its environment. I was contacted by a resident who came on the drum of waste whilst out walking in the locality. This barrel was only dumped within the last number of days.
"Local councils here have been lumbered with huge bills for the clean-ups, which must be carried out after the toxic residue of fuel laundering is abandoned by roadsides and in our most scenic areas. Rivers and other water courses have been polluted in some areas and the activity presents a real threat to the environment.
"At the end of the day it is the Dungannon ratepayers who will have to pick up the tab for these clean-ups and once again other council services are left the poorer because of this activity. Fuel laundering is not a victimless crime. Everyone has the responsibility and power to isolate these criminals. Residents must do their bit to help the authorities deal with the fuel laundering gangs and the organised crime they represent by reporting any suspicious activity to the PSNI or to Crimestoppers."
