Traffic Disruption Expected During Obama Visit

Commuters driving to Belfast on Monday morning have been advised to allow extra time to complete their journey or to use public transport to reduce congestion, during a visit by US President Barrack Obama.

Roads Minister Danny Kennedy said disruption would be expected for several hours as a result.

The US President is making a flying visit on his way to the G8 summit in Enniskillen.

He is due to make a keynote speech at the Waterfront Hall before a select group of people, believed to include children from integrated schools.

Laganside Courts, opposite the Waterfront Hall, will remain closed until midday.

"Delays are expected in the city centre as the PSNI has advised of closures on the Sydenham Bypass, M2 and Oxford Street for a time in the morning," the Minister said.

"Our advice is that people should only travel into Belfast on Monday morning if they have to. For those that do, my strong advice is to plan to be in work or school before 8am or travel later and, if at all possible, use public transport."

PSNI have advised there may be delays around Belfast International Airport from Friday.

Translink has advised anyone travelling to Belfast International Airport, Belfast City Airport and Dublin Airport to expect increased road congestion during the G8 summit.
