NSPCC Centre Opens In Craigavon

A new NSPCC Service Centre has been officially opened in Craigavon.

The Craigavon Service Centre is aimed at safeguarding children and young people and promoting their welfare. It offers services across the Southern Health and Social Care Trust area, as well as outreach services in the Western Health and Social Care Trust, to help children and young people overcome the harmful effects of sexual abuse.

Health Minister Edwin Poots said: "Sexual abuse has a devastating impact on its victims and their families and I welcome the launch of this NSPCC Service Centre today and the important services and programmes that the NSPCC provides, in partnership with other agencies, to children and their families to help them survive and overcome the effect of abuse.

"The programmes and services provided here in the Craigavon Service Centre, such as the Letting the Future In Programme, complement other much valued NSPCC services, such as ChildLine, ChildLine Schools Service and the Child Protection in Sport Unit."

The Minister continued: "Our collective aim should be to keep children and young people safe from harm – to prevent them being abused. However, when it happens - and sadly we cannot prevent it all of the time – we need to have services in place to help them deal with, and hopefully overcome, their experiences."
